I hope it never happens, but if it does, life in the United States of America will be radically different in the aftermath of the repeal of the Second Amendment. And not different, in a good way!
In fact, some of the democratic institutions of government we now take for granted may be unrecognizable in a post-repeal society. Familiar concepts such as “the sovereign citizen consenting to be governed” and “we the people” will become quaint distant memories. Individual liberties and patriotic ideals will be shunned by the champions of the new order in which the state now reigns supreme over its subjects.
And in case you missed it, retired Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens, recently proclaimed that the Court’s Heller decision of 2008 which strengthened the Second Amendment, unmistakably created a very bad precedent, and the only way to fix it was to repeal the Amendment!
In my wildest dreams, I never even contemplated the possibility that the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution could be repealed, until I researched the way the Constitution is amended. In my last article on this subject I wrote,” If the 18th Amendment could ban alcoholic beverages, then the 28th Amendment, yet to be written, could ban guns and ammunition by repealing the Second!”
As painful as this notion is to consider, we at The Liberty First Foundation, strongly encourage everyone, whether you keep and bear arms, or not, to come to grips with the possibility that this could actually happen! And it will not be for the betterment of our country if it does. Personally, I can’t imagine living in this country without the Second Amendment. It is the only thing standing between us and the complete confiscation and prohibition of guns and ammunition. America would soon become a mega “gun-free zone”!
If we lose the Second Amendment the entire Bill of Rights is in jeopardy.
The abolitionists calling for its repeal, unencumbered by common sense, believe that the United States without guns will be a better country, than with them. This unsupported hypothesis assumes a fact, not in evidence and emanates from magical thinking which dictates that all guns are evil and the people that own them are all villains.
Pundits say look at Australia. Strict gun laws are working there, right? Whether they are, or not, is debatable, but it’s not a fair comparison. There are profound differences between the United States and Australia. While we share some of the same values you would expect to find in a free society, our histories are vastly different. Our founding fathers fought a terrible war to free us from a tyrannical empire and paid dearly for our present-day freedoms with their blood. And to ensure that future Americans never had to live under Tyranny again, they enshrined our God-given rights in the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights in 1791.
Looking back to 1996 in Australia, we find that the two-day killing spree known as the Port Arthur massacre, which was the motivation for Australia to change their gun laws, was committed by a mad man identified as Martin John Bryant. A psychological assessment of Bryant revealed, not surprisingly, that he would never hold down a job as he would aggravate people to such an extent that he would always be in trouble. Even as a young boy, his mother said that he was an annoying and different child who was described by his teachers as being distant from reality and unemotional. At school, he was a disruptive and sometimes violent child who suffered severe bullying by other children. After he was suspended from school in 1977, at the age of 10, other psychological assessments of Bryant noted he was torturing animals. Later in life, it was determined that he was borderline mentally disabled, with an I.Q. of 66, equivalent to an 11-year-old. Further testing conducted after his arrest diagnosed Bryant with having borderline intellectual functioning, Asperger syndrome, and antisocial personality disorder.
This was a classic case of an individual that posed a danger to himself and others and who should have been receiving treatment for his mental illness in a secure institution!
But, as in America, Australia demonstrated that it is more politically expedient to ban the evil gun than to admit that society failed Mr. Bryant. Instead of securing treatment for Mr. Bryant, they allowed him, and presumably others like him, to roam freely about the countryside like an ill-mannered, antisocial dingo, when he should have been institutionalized.
Now, after 227 years of enjoying the natural rights & freedoms codified in our Constitution, liberal politicians find the Second Amendment an inconvenient impediment to their ultimate compulsion of confiscating our guns. Perhaps the most influential voice in this cowardly, gun-grabbing mob is that of Justice Stevens. He is shamefully advocating the repeal of a God-given right after swearing to protect and defend the U.S. Constitution!
Justices on the Supreme Court are there to interpret the law based on the Constitution we have, not the one they would like us to have. What he is suggesting is alarming, dangerous, and seditious. Repeal is taking the easy way out of a complex situation and because his liberal side can’t field a winning team, he wants to change the rules of the game.
No good can come from the repeal of the Second Amendment, only bad. Because for every action, there is a reaction.
The Liberty First Foundation urges all Americans to unite with us, speak out, and peaceably assemble at Pro-Second Amendment rallies. We must protest with enthusiasm equal to the opposition as we petition the Government for a redress of our grievances. These actions are guaranteed by the First Amendment; but if we lose the Second Amendment, how can we be sure we won’t lose the First at the same time. The last thing the opposition wants is for us to be marching in the streets protesting the loss of our rights!
So, for the sake of discussion, let’s assume for the moment that the Second is repealed. You can be sure that Congress and the States will immediately enact a myriad of laws prohibiting the manufacture, importation, sale, and private ownership and possession of all firearms and ammunition.
It is inevitable, as that is their primary objective.
How will Americans react to an effort to repeal the Second Amendment? It is impossible to predict, but one thing is certain. At the first sign of trouble in Congress, a huge Black Market will come into existence. Guns and ammunition will be hoarded, stockpiled, and hidden in bunkers in anticipation of the impending calamity. An organized “resistance” will begin to take shape and their resolve to prevent the repeal from becoming a reality will quickly harden.
We are NOT ADVOCATING for armed resistance, but we understand it is likely, for this reason. The Crips, the Bloods, MS-13, the La Cosa Nostra, and every other criminal enterprise will laugh at the repeal, as they have already violated every gun law we have on the books! And they will drool over the prospect of the government disarming the very Americans that these gangs routinely victimize. Criminals will not disarm themselves.
When the Amendment to repeal the Second Amendment is ratified and it becomes the new law of the land, all of us will be faced with a very difficult choice. To comply or resist. Eventually, if you haven’t surrendered your guns voluntarily, the government will be coming for them.
You will be identified as part of the “organized resistance” and this is when the rest of the rights you now enjoy start to disappear. The ATF and the FBI will be making lists and checking them twice. Have you recently bought a gun from a Federally Licensed Dealer? If you have, then you completed Form 4473, and your identity was checked through the National Instant Criminal Background Check System. Do you have a Concealed Carry License in your state of residence? If you do, then they know who you are, where you live and they’re going to make an example out of you.
When they come, Stormtroopers will have a search warrant based upon your name being on these forms and documents. They will claim that it represents “Probable Cause” and swear before a magistrate that if you bought a gun in the past and you haven’t yet surrendered it, you must still have it. So they will come in the dark of night when they think you are sleeping. Their search warrant will have a “no-knock endorsement” on it which means they don’t have to ring your doorbell, for their safety. After all, guns are evil and dangerous, right?
You will be awakened by the sound of breaking glass as they toss flash bangs through your bedroom windows. Teams of heavily armed Agents and Officers will simultaneously breach your front and back doors. You will be rousted from bed, thrown on the floor, and handcuffed. Unbeknown to you, your failure to relinquish your guns has turned you into a domestic terrorist, suspected of being a threat to the national security of the United States. Your right to have an attorney present before any questioning is suspended while they search for your weapons of war. If they discover your gun safe they will use a cutting torch to open it. They will search your entire home, pulling up your floorboards and putting holes in your walls. Your sheds, garage, and automobiles will not be spared from the sledgehammer and pry bars. The curtilage surrounding your home will be searched using ground-penetrating radar in an attempt to detect buried vaults. Anomalies will be excavated with a backhoe. They will search your key ring for keys you might have to an off-site storage locker and your financial records will be examined as they look for evidence of rent payments you might have made to a storage facility where you could be stashing your gun collection, suppressors, and reloading supplies.
And if the government thinks you are involved in an ongoing criminal conspiracy involving in the sale and manufacture of Ghost Guns, Bump Stocks or whatever, you will be subjected to both physical and electronic surveillance activities. Drones will circle overhead while wireless video cameras will be hidden in your neighborhood. GPS tracking devices will be surreptitiously installed on your vehicles to track your every movement. Your mail will be scanned before it is delivered. Nothing in your life will ever be private again. Legal bills will cripple you financially.
They will, in an effort to eradicate the scourge of firearms, bring the full force of the Federal Government to bear on you and your family, while proclaiming that the American justice system is the best in the world.
If the Second Amendment is the first of our rights to fall, then undoubtedly, the rest of them will fall like dominos. The Bill of Rights, as we know it today, will be shredded. When we lose the institutions of democracy, we will surely lose democracy itself. This is the way of totalitarian and authoritarian states.
This is the face of tyranny that nobody wants!
