Commitment

This week I have done some thinking about what is my commitment to supporting the Second Amendment. I was thinking that yeah I am writing articles and I am promoting the right of people to keep and bear arms but what is my commitment really? I started feeling as if I was not making a difference. I believed that I was trying to convince myself of our right to bear arms and I already believed. My thoughts were that yeah sure we have a great group of pro-gun rights members, but what about the people that we really need to be reaching? What about the person that comes home at night and browses through Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter? What about the person that comes home, turns on the evening news, and sees on CNN, MSNBC, or the other news channels we need to push for more “common sense” gun laws?

We are at a crossroads in this country and it seems like more than ever before that gun control is a hot-button topic. There is a ton of misinformation being spread by the anti-gun crowd and being promoted through the media. As I continue thinking about this, I saw something that really caused me concern. A member of the United States House of Representatives for the State of California was promoting the harassment of the Presidential Cabinet and the supporters of our President. vg-waters-incitement-400x250Representative Maxine Waters, a Democrat representing California’s 43rd Congressional District, was talking to a group of supporters promoting that they “push back” against members of the Presidential Cabinet that they gather in crowds and go to their homes calling for “No peace No sleep”.

This incident made me understand something clearly. What I understood is now more than ever we have to protect the right of the people to keep and bear arms. The only way that we can protect the Second Amendment is to change people’s views on guns and gun rights. People need to understand that guns are but a tool and that tool can be beneficial or it can be destructive. A hammer can be used to build a house that will protect and give comfort. That same hammer can then be used to destroy a beautiful sculpture. The tool is the same it is how that tool was used that makes the difference. Firearms are a tool that can protect or they can provide sustenance. At the same time, firearms can be used to destroy a life or lives in a fraction of a second. Again the tool did not change just the way that tool was used.

If I were to keep writing my articles and voicing my thoughts about the Second Amendment I may reach someone. If I continue working to promote firearms as a tool of protection I may demonstrate that they are a tool and how that tool is used makes the difference. If my articles can change a mind from anti-gun to gun advocacy then it is worth the time and effort that I put into these articles. I am but one voice and I am working to get my voice out, not only in these articles but also, through contacting my elected representatives and appointed officials charged with protecting our rights and ensuring liberty. That voice is but a whisper and it must grow to a roar. It must be thunderous and be a voice that lets the people know that our right to self-protect against those that wish to do us harm will not be taken.

This will only be accomplished with your help. The Liberty First Foundation needs your help in finding others to join their voices with ours to promote the protection of the rights endowed upon us by our creator. We need you to join us in contacting our elected representatives to let them know that these rights are not theirs for the taking. We have to organize our efforts and join together in one unified thunderous voice defending the people’s right to keep and bear arms. Join me in spreading this message and working to change the way firearms are perceived. Together we can change these perceptions and we can defend our rights.
