One Nation…Indivisible

Pledge of AllegianceI pledge Allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Simple words but with a powerful statement. As we celebrate the day of the birth of this Nation, I took time to ponder these words and their meaning.

Our country is struggling. We are divided. I return to those powerful words one nation…indivisible. Our struggle is not due to the issues we face, those can be solved. Our nation is struggling because we are divided. The result of this division is the loss of liberty and injustice for most.

Our founders started the process of establishing this Republic by passing the resolution that would initiate the Declaration of Independence. The leaders of the 13 colonies were united in this demand for independence from the tyrannical rule of King George.

After the American Revolution, we became divided under the Articles of Confederacy and our new Nation was in danger of collapsing before realizing the freedom that was fought for. To Unite the disparate states into a unified country something had to be done. From this, the Constitution of the United States was adopted by States. One Nation…indivisible.

United Fire FightersThe most trying times in our history have always been when we are divided. When we are divided. We are weak when we seek to find the points that divide us. The politicians want to place us in categories, liberal or conservative, left or right, democrat or republican, white or black, gay or straight, male or female, rich or poor. These divisions cause tension among the American People and set us to drawing lines in the sand to keep us divided.

Through this division, we are unable to find liberty. We are unable to provide justice. The lines in the sand mean that one side or the other will lose liberty and be treated unjustly. The truth is both sides lose liberty and both sides fail to experience justice. The result is to further divide and to blame the other side for the injustice and the loss of freedom.

The result is a call to the government to fix the problem. The truth is the government created the problem and the only solution is for us to unite.  One Nation…indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Until we unite together as one nation. Until we are indivisible. We CANNOT experience liberty and we CANNOT experience real justice.

UnitedThe government WILL NOT fix this problem. Only We the AMERICAN People can fix this problem. Only when we unite together as one nation, only when we are indivisible can we hold the government accountable to the American People. Only when we are united as one nation can we seek the justice that is being deprived to all of us. Liberty means that we must unite together to enforce the limitations that are outlined in the Constitution. Only when we are INDIVISIBLE are, we unstoppable. Our country will always have problems and our history is full of times when we have faltered. It was during these times of faltering that we were divided.

Get out in your communities and start to mend the fences and start to unite us into one nation…indivisible. This is the ONLY way that we can heal our Republic and work to right the wrongs that have happened from our division.

One Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
